RODEO – JEAN SHARP AWARD

GERRY – One of the area’s busiest women, Jean Sharp, has been honored by the Gerry Rodeo Committee as their “Member of the Year” at the recent Gerry Fire Department’s annual banquet. She received a pair of Justin boots as her award.

One Department member remarked that it would be nearly impossible to sponsor the rodeo without her dedication. Her duties as a member of the planning committee for the annual rodeo include attending monthly meetings, directing ticket sales, tabulating receipts and paying bills, soliciting advertising for the rodeo Day Sheet, helping to plan the rodeo advertising brochures, and making rodeo financial reports to the fire department.

Jean finds time to put in these countless volunteer hours for the rodeo despite working full time as she and her son Mike Sharp own and operate Falconer Gutter Supply. Mike also owns the Russell Roller Rink and many weekends Jean can be found helping with various duties there.

In addition, she is also active with the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department itself as a member of the Fire Police squad and serves as the treasurer for the department, a position which she has held for the past 12 years.

Regarding her selection by the Rodeo Committee, Jean said that she was “very surprised with the honor since there are so many others who put so much time in for the rodeo”.

Jean will again be playing a major role as the 74th consecutive annual PRCA rodeo is scheduled for four performances, August 1-4, with more than 200 professional cowboys and cowgirls expected to compete for $45,000 in prize money in the seven traditional rodeo events. Additional information about the rodeo or the famous beef barbeque dinners can be found at the website www.gerry rodeo.org or by phone at (716) 985-4847 or 1-888-985-4847.
